Thomas Kwame Okrah, the Coordinating Director and acting District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Adansi North District Assembly in the Ashanti Region, vacated his office on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, following a protest by disgruntled Assembly Members.

The protesting Assembly Members accused Okrah of showing them disrespect and allegedly misusing the Assembly’s resources, particularly DRIP machines, for personal gain. They also claimed he altered the list of Assembly Members designated to take part in the upcoming Council of State election.

Sensing the rising tension, Okrah left his office before the Fomena police arrived to restore calm.

Although the situation has been brought under control, the Assembly Members have submitted petitions to traditional authorities, the regional minister, and other relevant officials, calling for Okrah’s immediate reassignment.

Presiding Member Dominic Odame Kusi, speaking to Citi News, detailed their grievances.

“As per the law, two members must be chosen from the assembly. I, as the Presiding Member, provided their names to Okrah for endorsement and submission to the Regional Coordinating Council. However, I later discovered that the names had been changed without any prior consultation. This upset the Assembly Members and led to the protest,” he explained.

He further alleged that the DRIP machines were being misused for unauthorized purposes.

“We also found that the DRIP machines were being used for other activities, and upon investigation, we noticed name changes. We had to secure the machines. We no longer wish to work with him and have initiated steps to have him transferred,” Kusi added.

“A petition has been sent to the Regional Coordinating Council, the regional minister, and traditional leaders, and we have been assured that a response will follow soon.”

When reached for comment, Thomas Kwame Okrah declined to speak on the matter.
