Edward Obeng Kenzo Takes Over from Antwi Darkwa as Acting VRA CEO

Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Volta River Authority (VRA). A handover ceremony was held on Wednesday, February 5, where outgoing CEO Emmanuel Antwi Darkwa officially transferred leadership to Obeng-Kenzo.

His appointment comes under the directive of the government, as the VRA board is yet to be constituted. Until a formal decision is made by the incoming board, Obeng-Kenzo will serve in an acting capacity.

This transition marks a significant leadership change within the VRA, with Obeng-Kenzo tasked with steering the organization toward its mission of providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions for Ghana. His official confirmation as substantive CEO will depend on the yet-to-be-formed board’s decision.

Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo is an accomplished business executive with 24 years of experience in the power sector. He specializes in leading cross-functional teams to achieve exceptional results in competitive environments that demand continuous improvement to increase return on investment and customer satisfaction.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) and a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is also a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

Before his appointment, Obeng-Kenzo served as the Director of Thermal Generation SBU and held various key positions, including:

  • Plant Manager, Tema Thermal Power Complex (TTPC)
  • Operations Manager, TTPC
  • Project Manager, Tema Thermal 2 Power Project (49.5MW Siemens Emergency Power Plant)

As Acting CEO, he is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to enhance efficiency across various departments, including Hydro Generation, Engineering Services, Technical Services, Environment & Sustainable Development, Commercial Services, Thermal Generation, Strategic Projects & New Business, Utility Services, Water Resources, and Renewable Energy.
