The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has pledged to repair and restore 70% of the city’s streetlights within the next 50 days to enhance security and visibility.
Speaking to journalists in Accra on Monday, February 3, 2025, Ocloo emphasized that fixing the region’s faulty streetlights is one of her top priorities.
“In fact, within 50 days in office, all these things should be fixed. I will make sure that at least 70 percent of the streetlights should be fixed,” she assured.
She further stated that her office would collaborate with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to achieve this goal.
Beyond street lighting, Ocloo highlighted security and sanitation as key areas of focus in her administration’s plan to improve the capital city. She announced the reintroduction of the Regional Sanitation Day initiative and an award scheme to recognize the cleanest city in the region, aimed at fostering better waste management practices.
Additionally, the minister revealed plans to empower municipal and district assemblies to become self-sustaining as part of the government’s “Resetting Agenda.” She also expressed her commitment to working closely with traditional leaders and religious organizations to strengthen decentralization and participatory governance.
Ocloo’s ambitious commitment signals a proactive approach to addressing Accra’s pressing urban challenges, with hopes of creating a safer and cleaner capital city.
