I Was Approached to Lead Majority Caucus Before 2024 Elections – Mahama Ayariga Reveals

Bawku Central MP and newly appointed Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has disclosed that he was considered for the leadership role of the majority caucus prior to the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Mr. Ayariga revealed that discussions about his suitability for the position began while he was still a member of the minority caucus, actively opposing the Akufo-Addo administration.

“To tell you the truth, towards the end, there were approaches made to me to consider leading the majority caucus after the 2024 general elections. [This was] Before the elections,” he shared during the interview.

Mr. Ayariga officially assumed the position of Majority Leader on January 23, 2025, succeeding Cassiel Ato Forson, who now serves as the Minister of Finance. His appointment is widely viewed as a strategic move by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to leverage his vast experience and leadership capabilities to steer the party’s legislative agenda in Parliament.
