The fire spread rapidly, fueled by the flammable materials prevalent in the market, including wood, sawdust, and timber-processing chemicals. Despite swift notification, firefighters faced significant challenges in containing the blaze due to its intensity.
This incident comes only two weeks after a similar catastrophe on January 4, which destroyed large sections of the market. Traders were still grappling with losses of goods, tools, and essential infrastructure when this second disaster struck.
Following the earlier fire, market authorities and city officials had initiated discussions on fire safety measures, such as installing fire hydrants, conducting regular safety inspections, and creating firebreaks within the market.
