The President of the Professionals Forum of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sam Pee Yalley, has called on the newly elected NDC Members of Parliament (MPs) to retain Alban Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament in the upcoming ninth Parliament.

Speaking at an event organized by the Forum in Accra, Sam Pee Yalley emphasized that Bagbin’s leadership would be crucial for the NDC-dominated Parliament. He expressed confidence in Bagbin’s ability to prioritize national interests, describing him as a unifying figure capable of guiding Parliament effectively.

“We urge our Members of Parliament not to make any mistake in changing you [Alban Bagbin],” Yalley stated. He highlighted the Forum’s research and grassroots engagement, which indicated widespread support for Bagbin among Ghanaians.

“We believe you will be needed even more in this one-sided Parliament. For you, it is Ghana first, and that’s what this nation needs,” he added.

As the January 6, 2025, vote for Speaker approaches, speculation about other potential candidates within NDC circles has grown. Names such as former Deputy Chief of Staff Valerie Sawyer and former Speaker Edward Doe-Adjaho have been floated as possible contenders. However, the NDC Professionals Forum considers any change in leadership to be premature, advocating instead for continuity under Bagbin’s stewardship.

Yalley reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to supporting Bagbin and collaborating to enhance his effectiveness. “We will double our efforts in supporting everything that you do and provide feedback when necessary,” he said.
