Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team to Work Pro Bono – Okudzeto Ablakwa

The chairman of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the team will carry out its mandate without any financial compensation. Members will forgo salaries, allowances, per diems, and fuel coupons, ensuring their work comes at no cost to taxpayers.

In a statement shared on social media on December 18, 2024, Mr. Ablakwa stated, “We shall not be receiving salaries, allowances, per diems, or fuel coupons. None of our activities will come at a cost to the taxpayer. Let’s do this for God and country. Ghana First.”

The ORAL team, established by President-elect John Dramani Mahama, is tasked with investigating allegations of corruption, documenting cases of misappropriated state resources, and spearheading efforts to recover looted funds.

The five-member team comprises:

  • Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Chairman
  • Daniel Domelevo – Former Auditor-General
  • COP (Rtd.) Nathaniel Kofi Boakye – Retired Commissioner of Police
  • Martin Kpebu – Legal Practitioner
  • Raymond Archer – Investigative Journalist

During their inaugural meeting held earlier in the day, the team resolved to work on a pro bono basis, emphasizing their commitment as a patriotic contribution to Ghana.

Addressing concerns about operational funding, Mr. Ablakwa assured the public that any necessary costs would be covered through private donations rather than public funds. This measure aligns with the team’s mission to avoid burdening taxpayers.

The ORAL team forms a critical component of President-elect Mahama’s transition strategy, focusing on anti-corruption and accountability. By commencing their work ahead of the administration’s official start, the team aims to establish a robust foundation for recovery and transparency initiatives once Mahama assumes office.
