The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced it will keep the original order of presidential candidates on the ballot for the 2024 election, despite the recent disqualification of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa made this announcement at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, November 12. She emphasized the EC’s commitment to a smooth election process, explaining that Kubi’s disqualification would not alter the current ballot structure.
Mensa informed party representatives that the printing of presidential ballots is nearly complete, with about 90 percent already finalized, ensuring that election materials will be ready well in advance of voting day. She assured attendees that the EC’s preparations are on schedule and that there will be no logistical issues caused by changes in ballot order.
“Today, we are here to inform you of the Commission’s decision to maintain the presidential ballot as it is. As you know, with your representatives in the printing houses, the printing process for the presidential ballots is almost 90 percent complete,” she stated.
The GFP had initially nominated Kubi as a replacement for Akua Donkor, the party’s founder, who passed away unexpectedly on October 28. For the EC, maintaining the current ballot arrangement ensures continuity and prevents potential logistical complications.
