In a move set to bring financial relief to commuters across the country, transport fares in Ghana will be reduced by 15% starting Saturday, May 24, 2025. The decision follows successful negotiations between the Ministry of Transport and transport operators.

The fare cut comes as a result of recent macroeconomic improvements, particularly the sustained appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar, which has significantly lowered fuel prices.

Abass Imoro, Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) confirmed the fare adjustment . He described the decision as a timely response to current market conditions.

“We have finally agreed to reduce lorry fares by 15%, but it will take effect from Saturday,” he said. He added that despite spare parts and lubricant prices not yet reflecting the improved exchange rate, the union has taken a proactive step to support the public.
