West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has arrived in Ghana for his first visit to support the Samba Football Academy. The 34-year-old touched down at Kotoka International Airport on Sunday, November 10, where he was welcomed by the Ghanaian Hammers, a local group of West Ham fans.
Antonio’s itinerary includes a visit to Bompata in Kumasi, where he will inspect the academy project he has been actively supporting. During his stay, he plans to mentor young players at the Samba Stars Academy, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, offering guidance and encouragement.
Speaking to the media, Antonio shared his vision: “We’ve started an academy here in Kumasi, Bompata. We know about all the talent here; we’ve seen Mo [Kudus] is at the club (West Ham) right now. We just want to give the boys here the opportunity to break through to the Premier League.”
He expressed admiration for Ghana’s rich pool of talent, noting that it inspired him to invest in the country: “It’s just obviously the talent in the pool that Ghana has and to give the motherland the opportunity to get their players or family over to the UK or worldwide playing football.”
Antonio is expected to stay in Ghana for a few more days before heading to Jamaica for the international break.
