The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced that the United Kingdom (UK) will introduce a new electronic visa (E-Visa) policy effective January 1, 2025. This shift will impact all travelers to the UK staying for more than six months, replacing traditional physical visa documents, Biometric Residence Permits (BRP), and Biometric Residence Cards (BRC).

The British High Commission has stated that, beginning January, E-Visas will be the sole valid document for long-term stays, while all BRPs and BRCs will expire on December 31, 2024, regardless of their original expiration dates. The E-Visa system aims to streamline visa processing and enhance security.

Travelers planning to be abroad during the holiday season are advised to secure their E-Visas by December 31 to prevent re-entry issues. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that affected individuals consult the British High Commission’s website or UK immigration for detailed application guidance.

This advisory was signed by the Ministry’s Acting Director for Information and Public Affairs Bureau, Victor N. A. Adamah, on November 4, 2024.
