The Akanu Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intercepted 54 gallons of fuel at Kopeyia, near the Kpoglo Border Post, on suspicion that they were intended for smuggling into Togo.
According to a press release from the Ghana News Agency, signed by Mr. Michael Amoako-Atta, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration and Head of Public Affairs, the interception was carried out by Inspector Ebenezer Asa-Appiah, Assistant Inspector Israel Gidisu, and ICO Benjamin Prah during routine patrols.
The fuel was being transported in a Toyota Carina with Togolese registration number TG 9378 AQ. The National Petroleum Authority in Ho has since tested the fuel.
The GIS warned border residents and the public against engaging in illegal activities that harm Ghana’s economy. The statement emphasized that border patrols have been intensified, particularly at unapproved crossings, and anyone caught in cross-border crimes will face strict legal consequences.
