Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convener of the anti-galamsey protest organized by the Democracy Hub, has been denied bail for the third time by the Circuit Court. His bail application was rejected again after the Attorney General’s Department opposed it.
Barker-Vormawor has been in custody since his arrest during the protest two weeks ago. Prior to this, both the Accra High Court and the Circuit Court had previously denied his requests for bail.
Meanwhile, another detainee, Fanny Otoo, who has reportedly been unwell since her arrest, was granted bail of GH₵20,000 with two sureties.
The case has been adjourned to October 14, 2024.
In a related development, the State filed an affidavit this morning opposing bail applications for 20 other anti-galamsey protesters. The State argued that it had not been properly served with the applications, despite court records indicating service on October 2. The judge directed the protesters’ lawyers to ensure proper service and adjourned the case to October 9, 2024.
