The Circuit Court has granted bail to 19 additional anti-galamsey protesters, each set at GH₵20,000 with one surety.

The protesters granted bail include well-known activist Raphael Williams, along with Razak Suleman, Gerald Delim, Comrade Abubakar Sadeeq, Bilal Mohammed, Ebenezer Ankomanyi Okyere, Norgbedzi Kelvin, Priscilla Tobili, Mohammed King Hassan, and Tanko Nabong, also known as Black Pyramid. The remaining individuals include Kingsley Asiedu, Seth Coffie, Vera G. Louise, Nii Hammond, Dela Quarshie, Manuel Biney, Mathias Agbevi, Ernest Acheampong, and Dorsese Joseph.

This comes after the anti-galamsey protest, during which these individuals were arrested. However, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convener of the protest, was once again denied bail. His bail request has now been refused for the third time since his arrest two weeks ago, following objections from the Attorney General’s Department.

Earlier, an Accra High Court and the Circuit Court also denied Barker-Vormawor’s bail applications.

Meanwhile, another detainee, Fanny Otoo, who has been ill since her arrest, was granted bail set at GH₵20,000 with two sureties.

During the court proceedings, the State filed an affidavit opposing the bail applications for 20 additional detainees, claiming they had not been served with the necessary documents, although court records showed service on October 2. The judge directed the protesters’ lawyers to ensure proper service and adjourned the case to October 9, 2024.
