Akufo-Addo Appeals to Organised Labour to Postpone Planned Nationwide Strike

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged organised labour to reconsider its planned nationwide strike set for October 10, 2024.

This plea was made during a closed-door meeting on October 3, where the focus was on the critical issue of illegal mining, which is causing severe environmental damage.

The President assured union leaders that he is committed to addressing their concerns about illegal mining and requested more time to work on their demands.

Organised labour has been vocal about the government’s lack of strong action against illegal mining, which has led to significant environmental degradation.

With analysts warning of the economic consequences a strike could bring, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need for collaboration and promised another meeting next week to further discuss solutions.
