A new report from the Ghana AIDS Commission has revealed that 50 people contract HIV/AIDS in Ghana daily, translating to one new infection every 30 minutes.
Despite progress since the 1980s in combating HIV, the report highlights the need for more awareness to meet national targets.
The 2023 national HIV/AIDS estimates show that 334,095 people live with the virus, including 17,550 children under 15. Most new infections occur among people aged 15 to 49, the economically active population.
Ghana recorded 17,774 new infections in 2023, with 1,698 among children and 16,076 among adults. While infection rates and AIDS-related deaths are declining, they remain insufficient to meet national goals.
