Ghanaian-born Nigerian Actor Emmanuel France Passes Away

Nigerian actor of Ghanaian descent, Emmanuel France, has passed away. His death was confirmed by Nigerian filmmaker Olufemi Ogedengbe via Instagram on Monday, September 16, 2024, following earlier rumors. Ogedengbe paid tribute to the veteran actor, recalling their work on three films: She Is My Sister, The Director, and Cross My Sin, and referring to France as a Nollywood legend.

Although the cause of his death remains unknown, France leaves behind a legacy of notable performances in Nollywood films like Narrow Escape, Witches, Silent Night, Exile, and others.

France, whose career began in Ghana, was often thought to be Ghanaian. However, in a 2011 interview, he clarified that he identified as a “Gold Coastian,” as his family came from the Gold Coast before it became Ghana. He held Nigerian nationality, having been born there, but maintained his heritage proudly.
