Henry Odartey Lamptey, a law clerk in Accra, has been charged with forgery involving the signatures of high-ranking judicial officials and the creation of fraudulent documents. He faces eight charges of forgery and has pleaded not guilty. The court has granted him bail set at GHS 500,000, with two guarantors required, one of whom must be a public servant earning at least GHS 3,000 monthly, with a payslip signed by their superior.
The case emerged in June after a report was filed by the Judicial Secretary of Ghana, alleging that Lamptey and others, who are currently on the run, were involved in producing fake marriage and divorce certificates, court orders, and other official documents. The situation escalated on August 13 when Seidu Adams, an associate, was arrested with numerous forged documents, including court orders and marriage certificates. Adams implicated Lamptey as his accomplice.
Lamptey was arrested on August 29, and during the investigation, he confessed to his involvement, revealing that he charged GHS 300 for fabricating letters purportedly from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. Lamptey’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 7.
