Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah, a private legal practitioner, has won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary for the Manhyia South Constituency. The election, held on Sunday, July 14, saw Awuah secure 376 votes, defeating Nana Owusu Prempeh, the brother of the outgoing MP, who received 141 votes.

Among the other contenders, Akwasi Coker Gyambibi managed only 2 votes, while James Owusu garnered 7 votes. This primary was necessitated by the selection of the current Manhyia South MP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as the running mate to the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, prompting the need for a new candidate for the upcoming by-election.

Initially, five candidates picked up forms to contest, but only four participated on the election day. Manhyia South is considered a stronghold of the NPP, and the primary winner is expected to secure victory in the main election to become the MP.
