Supreme Court to Hear Richard Sky’s Challenge to Anti-Gay Bill on July 3

The Supreme Court has slated July 3, 2024, to deliberate on the lawsuit brought forth by private legal practitioner Richard Dela Sky against Parliament over the enactment of the contentious anti-gay bill.

Sky is disputing the constitutionality of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, aiming for a ruling that declares it null and void, asserting that its passage contravened the nation’s laws and fundamental human rights.

The case was previously postponed until May 17, allowing Sky to submit an updated motion paper with a supporting affidavit and a comprehensive statement of the case, thus providing a clearer foundation for his legal argument.

On June 14, the court, through a notice signed by its registrar, Hellen Ofei-Ayeh (Mrs), cautioned that the hearing would proceed as scheduled, irrespective of the presence of representatives from each party.

This notice serves to alert all parties to ensure their representatives are in attendance, as absence could result in forfeiting their chance to be heard.

“BE INFORMED THAT the aforementioned case is set for WEDNESDAY, THE 3RD DAY OF JULY, 2024, at 9:30 am for hearing.

“If the case is called and you fail to appear, the Court will proceed to hear it without you.”
