Kennedy Agyapong: I Remain Loyal to NPP, I Will Not Go Independent

Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and denied any intention of running as an independent presidential candidate in the December elections.

During his 64th birthday celebration on Sunday, June 16, Agyapong addressed rumors about his political ambitions, stating, “I have not resigned from the party; I am not going independent. I am still an NPP member,” and added that running as an independent candidate would not be a “wise thing to do.”

Agyapong’s comments follow his second-place finish to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in the NPP presidential primary last November. Although he previously indicated in February that he would not heavily participate in Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, he was recently seen supporting the Vice President in the Ashanti Region.

At his birthday event, Agyapong called for unity among NPP members, emphasizing that there should be no division between his supporters and those of the Vice President. “We are all party people, and it will be best for us to come together. So I am pleading with my supporters: let’s use my birthday to reconcile,” he said.

He urged NPP supporters to present a united front, asserting, “With a united front, we can win the election in 2024.”
