Otto Addo Reappointed as Black Stars Coach

The Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council has given its blessing to the recommendation of the five-member Black Stars Head Coach search committee, reappointing Otto Addo as the coach of the national team. The decision was reached after a lengthy emergency meeting of the Executive Council on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

The Council reviewed the report of the search committee, which was chaired by Vice President Mark Addo, before coming to a decision. Subsequently, an agreement has been reached between the Ghana Football Association and Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund for Addo to be released to assume his new role.

Addo will be offered a 34-month contract with an option for a further 24 months. Speaking on the decision, President Simeon-Okraku stated, “Otto was outstanding during the interview process and received high ratings from the search committee, hence the decision to reappoint him.”

“There were several impressive candidates among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the time to interview many of them to gauge their plans to transform the team given our unique circumstances,” President Simeon-Okraku added.

Addo will be permitted by Borussia Dortmund to join the Black Stars for the upcoming international window in March. Afterward, he will return to the club to officially conclude his duties and then take up the national team coaching role permanently in May this year.

Otto Addo previously led the Black Stars to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where they secured one victory against South Korea in the second group game, while losing to Portugal and Uruguay in the first and last group games, respectively. Addo resigned immediately after the group stage exit.
