Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the outspoken Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has opened up about feeling betrayed and hurt by his colleagues in the 2023 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Primary. Agyapong, speaking in an upcoming interview with KSM on Pan Africa Television, expressed disappointment over the treatment he received, particularly from MPs he had supported financially in their parliamentary campaigns.
While acknowledging that MPs have the right to choose their preferred candidate, Agyapong highlighted the personal attacks and insults he endured from those he considered close friends. He emphasized that it was not the Vice President’s victory that fueled his bitterness, but rather the betrayal and the negative comments made about him by individuals he had helped bring into Parliament.
Agyapong secured 71,996 votes, representing 37.41%, in the NPP Presidential Primaries, while Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the winner with 118,210 votes, accounting for 61.47%, making him the party’s flagbearer. Despite the outcome, Agyapong expressed that it was the disrespectful behavior of his colleagues that he found most hurtful, stating, “It’s not the betrayal, but the bad things they said about me, that is where I have the problem.” He added, “If you are not going to vote for me, no problem but the insults. I can’t forgive them.”
