Guinness World Record Disqualifies Afua Asantewaa’s Sing-a-thon Attempt

The Guinness World Record (GWR) has disqualified Ghanaian singer Afua Asantewaa’s attempt at the longest singing marathon. Responding to a comment on Twitter, GWR stated that Afua’s attempt was not successful, but they hoped she would make another attempt soon. The evidence check for her attempt had already begun before she requested priority service, and her earlier payment has been refunded.

Afua Asantewaa had disclosed earlier this month that she paid $750 to expedite her priority review process with Guinness World Records. The usual review process takes up to twelve weeks, but with payment, it can be expedited to five days. Afua decided to expedite her review process after two weeks of attempting the record, which required her to pay the said amount.

In an interview, Afua explained that she has an account with GWR, and they requested her files after the record attempt. Following a two-week wait, she opted for the priority review, which costs $650 officially but totaled around $750 after transaction fees.

The GWR tweeted on February 23, “Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Record attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans. The evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority…”
