Ghanaians Call for Kurt Okraku to Resign Following Chris Hughton’s Firing

The dismissal of Chris Hughton as the Head Coach of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, has prompted widespread demands from football enthusiasts for the resignation of Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) officially announced Hughton’s removal on Tuesday, citing Ghana’s failure to progress to the knockout stages of the tournament as the decisive factor.

Support for Hughton’s dismissal found expression on social media platforms, with netizens sharing sentiments in favor of the decision. Some users even called for a broader shake-up within the GFA, with one suggesting, “…[it was] time for Nana Addo to also sack every GFA member.”

However, dissatisfaction persisted among certain sections of the public, specifically targeting Kurt Okraku. Several users on social media demanded Okraku’s immediate resignation alongside Hughton’s departure, citing Okraku’s tenure as lacking progress for the Black Stars and labeling him as potentially the worst GFA President ever.

Ghana’s underwhelming performances under Hughton included a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, a draw with Egypt, and a last-minute surrender of a two-goal lead against Mozambique. The team’s elimination from the tournament was confirmed after Cameroon overcame Gambia.

Hughton’s dismissal did not come as a surprise, given the team’s inconsistent performance and mounting pressure. The Ghana FA has faced criticism for its handling of the team, and Hughton’s removal is perceived as a step toward addressing the prevailing issues.
