World’s Oldest Chicken, Peanut, Dies at 21 Years in Michigan

The world’s oldest chicken, Peanut, has passed away at the remarkable age of 21 years and 238 days in her home in Michigan, USA. Marsi Darwin, Peanut’s owner, announced the hen’s passing with deep sorrow, describing Peanut as a cherished family member.

Peanut’s extraordinary life began over two decades ago when Marsi nurtured her from an egg, forming a profound bond. Initially cared for inside a parrot cage for two years after being abandoned by her mother, Peanut later joined a coop alongside other chickens.

Throughout her lifetime, Peanut hatched numerous nests of eggs, leaving a legacy of descendants currently residing in Marsi’s coop. As Peanut reached old age, she returned indoors, sharing space with her daughter, Millie, until Millie’s passing at 15. Subsequently, Peanut’s companions Luna and Benny also departed, leading Marsi to believe Peanut was affected by their losses.

In her final days, Marsi spent cherished moments with Peanut, holding her close and comforting her. On Christmas Eve, Peanut peacefully passed away in her sleep, nestled in Marsi’s embrace, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories.

Peanut’s longevity was a testament to her remarkable life, although she falls short of the record held by Muffy, the oldest chicken ever, who lived to the age of 23 years and 152 days.
