Black Stars Commence AFCON 2023 Preparations in Kumasi

The Black Stars have initiated their preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in a determined fashion. Arriving in Kumasi, Ghana, the team has begun their pre-tournament camp in earnest.

In the announcement of their final 27-man squad for the prestigious tournament on January 1st, 2024, the exclusion of certain key players sparked discussions among fans and analysts alike.

On the evening of the same day, 14 players, led by captain Dede Ayew, landed at the Kumasi International Airport to kick off the preparations. Among the notable faces joining Ayew were Ernest Nuamah and Gideon Mensah.

Mohammed Kudus and Inaki Williams are expected to join the squad later to bolster the team’s momentum as they gear up for the tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.

Ahead of their departure to Abidjan, the team is set to face off against the Brave Warriors of Namibia in a friendly match in Kumasi on January 8th, 2024. This match serves as an invaluable opportunity for the coaching staff to assess player progress and fitness levels.

Drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde Islands, and Mozambique, Ghana faces an intense group stage challenge. Their campaign kicks off against Cape Verde Islands on January 14th, followed by a clash against Egypt on January 18th, 2024, and culminating with a match against Mozambique on January 22nd, 2024.
