Residents of Samsam Demand Urgent Road Repairs

Residents of Samsam and surrounding areas within the Ga West Municipality have taken to the streets to voice their deep concern over the appalling condition of their roads. The roads, characterized by dust, gaping potholes, and rough terrain, link to critical areas such as the Pokuase-Nsawam interchange and parts of the Eastern Region, posing a significant hazard to commuters.

Clad in striking red and black attire, protesters brandished placards with emphatic messages, highlighting their frustrations with the authorities’ inaction despite numerous appeals to address the dire state of the roads.

“We are integral to Ghana; the state of our road is dire. This particular road serves as a crucial link connecting major routes like Aburi, Nsawam, and Accra Polytechnic. We implore the government to prioritize fixing this road for us. Waiting for a catastrophe before acting is unacceptable,” urged the residents, appealing directly to the government for immediate action.

However, amidst their protest, chaos ensued between the demonstrators from Samsam-Odumase and commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as ‘okada’ riders. This was due to a breach of a directive aiming to restrict ‘okada’ operations in the area.

The community’s fervent call for road repairs echoes the urgent need for attention to infrastructural development, emphasizing the critical role these roads play in connecting vital regions within Ghana.
