Based on the results of the primaries, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will lead the NPP as their presidential candidate in the upcoming elections.

His primary challenge in the forthcoming elections will come from former President John Dramani Mahama, who was elected as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the previous December’s election. These two seasoned politicians have crossed paths on multiple campaign platforms, albeit in different roles.

In the lead-up to the 2008 elections, they both served as running mates. Dr. Bawumia supported Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, while Mr. Mahama assisted the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills. In the 2012, 2016, and 2020 elections, Mr. Mahama led the NDC, while Dr. Bawumia remained the running mate to Mr. Akufo-Addo.
