President Akuffo Addo To Pay Visit To Flood Victims Following Akosombo Dam Spillage

In an effort to provide assistance to those affected by the recent spillage from the Akosombo Dam, President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to embark on a visit to the severely impacted districts on October 16, 2023. This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to alleviating the suffering caused by the flooding.

 

Eugene Arhin, the Communications Director at the Presidency, announced the President’s visit, during which he will be accompanied by members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee. This committee has been established to coordinate the government’s response to the flooding and facilitate relief efforts for the affected communities.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Arhin stated, “The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will on Monday, 16th October 2023, visit the districts severely hit by the floods occasioned by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam. The President will be joined on this tour by members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee, which has been set up to coordinate Government’s response to the flooding and to help bring relief to those affected. The President arrives from his 4-day official visit to the United States this evening.”

The spillage from the Akosombo Dam has resulted in extensive flooding, compelling numerous communities in the north, south, and Central Tongu districts of the Volta Region to evacuate. These communities are now faced with the arduous task of salvaging what remains of their possessions.
