President Akufo-Addo to Address Nation on GRA/SML Contract Audit Findings

President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to address the nation regarding the contentious revenue mobilization contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilization Ghana Ltd (SML). This decision comes in response to a request from Professor Ransford Gyampo, a Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, urging the President to reveal the findings of the KPMG audit report on the contract to ensure transparency and accountability.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, explained that President Akufo-Addo received the audit report from KPMG on March 27, 2024. He added that the President has been carefully reviewing the findings and is prepared to communicate his decisions to the Ghanaian public soon.

“On Wednesday, 27th March 2024, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, received from KPMG its report on the audit conducted, at his request, on the transactions between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML),” Eugene Arhin stated.

“President Akufo-Addo is currently examining the findings of the audit report and will, in due course, make his decisions known to the Ghanaian people,” he added.

It will be remembered that on 2nd January 2024, President Akufo-Addo appointed KPMG to audit the contracts between GRA and SML. He subsequently directed the Ministry of Finance and GRA to suspend the execution of the contracts pending the submission of the audit report, including any anticipated payments under their terms.

The upcoming address by President Akufo-Addo is expected to shed light on the findings of the audit report and the government’s stance on the GRA/SML contract.
