Manchester City’s run of 21 consecutive wins came to a crunching halt as Manchester United won 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
The game began in startling fashion when Gabriel Jesus fouled Anthony Martial inside the first minute, gifting Bruno Fernandes the opportunity to score from the penalty spot.
Early in the second half came the game’s pivotal moments. First Rodri hit the angle of post and bar from the edge of the box, then less than two minutes later Luke Shaw exchanged passes with Marcus Rashford before slotting home from 20 yards out.
In Spain also, Karim Benzema scored a late equaliser to snatch a point for Real Madrid in a 1-1 derby draw against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Diego Simeone’s side still hold a five-point lead over their closest rivals, and a three-point lead over Barcelona, at the top of the table, but the difference would have been eight points had it not been for Benzema’s late goal.
Back to England again, Liverpool continue poor home performance as Fulham beat them.
Liverpool suffered a sixth consecutive home defeat as Mario Lemina’s first-half goal sealed a 1-0 win for Fulham at Anfield.
60 seconds before half-time, Mario Lemina dispossessed Mohamed Salah on the edge of his own box before striking past Alisson and giving his side a well-deserved lead.
Meanwhile, The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has congratulated the Black Satellites on winning this year’s Africa U-20 Cup of Nations trophy in Mauritania.
Satellites handed debutants Uganda a 2-0 defeat at Stade Municipal in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott to win the cup on Ghana’s 64th birthday.
“Congratulations to Black Satellites of Ghana for winning the 2021 Total Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. You have given Ghana a perfect gift to commemorate our Independence Day. We are proud of you,” Dr. Bawumia wrote.
