Walewale MP, Lariba Abudu Withdraws from NPP Primaries

Lariba Abudu, the Member of Parliament for Walewale, has withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries ahead of the 2024 elections.

In a letter, she explained that her decision followed an inconclusive rerun of the Walewale parliamentary primary on September 9, 2024.

The rerun was declared null and void after an individual disrupted the sorting process, leading to the destruction of ballot papers.

Abudu stated that her decision was in the best interest of the party’s peace and unity. With her withdrawal, Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama is expected to be the NPP candidate for the December 2024 elections.

Dr. Mahama had previously won a closely contested primary in January 2024, but Abudu challenged the results in court, resulting in the September 9 rerun.
