The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate resignation or dismissal of Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia accused Mr. Dame of professional misconduct, stating that he has tarnished the reputation of his esteemed office. Speaking during the NDC’s “Moment of Truth” series on Tuesday, Mr. Nketia emphasized the importance of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice role, insisting that the office must be upheld with integrity.

“Given the scandalous nature of the recording and other evidence we have presented, we demand the immediate and unconditional resignation or dismissal of Godfred Dame for disgracing the high office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice. Mr. Dame is evidently unfit to continue in his position,” said Mr. Nketia.

This demand follows allegations from Richard Jakpa, the third accused in an ongoing case, who claimed that Mr. Dame attempted to coerce him into implicating the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in the ambulance procurement scandal.

The Attorney General’s spokesperson, Isaac Wilberforce Mensah, has dismissed these allegations. During the press conference, the NDC played a 16-minute audio clip, purportedly capturing a telephone conversation between Mr. Dame and Mr. Jakpa. In the recording, Mr. Dame allegedly discussed terms with Mr. Jakpa. Additionally, the party shared screenshots of WhatsApp messages between the two.

The NDC insists these revelations necessitate Mr. Dame’s immediate resignation or dismissal to restore credibility to the Attorney General’s office and Ghana’s judicial system.
