A 21-year-old Ghanaian football fan, Mohammed Huzeinu, has been sentenced to 100 days in prison by an Accra District Court for invading the pitch during Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has welcomed the sentencing, describing it as a stern warning to football fans, emphasizing that such actions not only disrupt matches but also lead to financial penalties for the association.

During the court hearing, the prosecution revealed that Huzeinu breached security and ran onto the pitch, causing a brief disruption in the game. He was quickly apprehended by stadium security officials and handed over to the police.

In its ruling, the court found him guilty of unlawful entry and disorderly conduct, leading to his 100-day prison sentence.

Reacting to the sentencing, the GFA reiterated its stance against pitch invasions, stating that such behavior tarnishes the country’s football reputation and could attract fines from FIFA or CAF.

“This should serve as a strong deterrent to others. These actions not only disrupt the game but has also resulted in financial penalties for the GFA,” a statement from the association read.
