2025 AFCONQ: Thomas Partey Dropped as Otto Addo Names 25-Man Squad for Angola and Niger Matches

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has announced a 25-man squad for Ghana’s final qualifying matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Angola and Niger. The squad announcement, made Thursday afternoon at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Conference Room, includes some notable omissions, such as Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey and AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu.

Partey, who missed the previous qualifiers against Sudan, has been left out, and Salisu is also absent from the squad. However, the team includes three players from the Ghana Premier League: Isaac Afful (FC Samartex), Emmanuel Antwi (Asante Kotoko), and Razak Simpson (Nations FC), highlighting the inclusion of domestic talent.

Addo has selected a strong mix of experienced players for the critical games. Key figures like Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Kudus, Inaki Williams, and Jordan Ayew will be integral to Ghana’s efforts to qualify for the 2025 tournament in Morocco.

The Black Stars are currently third in Group F with only two points from four matches. Ghana must secure victories against Angola in Luanda on November 15 and Niger at home on November 18. In addition to their own success, Ghana needs Sudan to lose both of their remaining matches to have a chance of qualifying.
