The Koforidua Circuit Court B has granted bail to 14 individuals arrested for engaging in illegal mining activities—popularly known as galamsey—at Akyem Muoso in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

Each of the accused was granted bail in the sum of GH¢350,000, with two sureties required, one of whom must be justified with movable property.

The suspects were arrested on May 15, 2025, by the Eastern South Regional Police Command and arraigned the following day. A police statement indicated that a pump-action gun was retrieved from one suspect, Zuberu Nuhoho, who failed to produce legal documentation for the weapon. Officers also recovered two excavator control boards at the mining site.
