Zambia Defeats Black Queens in Olympic Games Qualifier

The Black Queens of Ghana suffered a setback in their quest to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics after a 1-0 defeat against Zambia in a thrilling encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium. Racheal Kundananhi’s first-half goal proved decisive for Zambia, denting the Black Queens’ hopes of progressing in the Olympic Games qualifiers.

Despite having their bonuses settled and enjoying strong support from the home crowd, the Black Queens struggled to find their rhythm early in the game. Zambia, on the other hand, looked dangerous in attack, with Kundananji’s 19th-minute strike showcasing her exceptional talent.

The Black Queens found it difficult to create scoring opportunities, with striker Evelyn Badu attempting long-range shots without success. Zambia’s defensive organization kept the Black Queens at bay, maintaining their lead going into halftime.

In the second half, the Black Queens pushed forward in search of an equalizer, with Badu coming close in the 55th minute, only to be denied by the Zambian goalkeeper. Despite making attacking substitutions, including Gifty Assifuah, Comfort Yeboah, and Freda Ayisi, the Black Queens were unable to break through Zambia’s resolute defense.

The victory puts Zambia in a strong position ahead of the return leg at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. The Green Buffaloes will be confident following their impressive performance and will look to secure their spot in the Olympic Games with another positive result.
