Ghana’s new President, John Dramani Mahama, has lauded Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his prompt and gracious concession of defeat in the recent elections.
Dr. Bawumia conceded defeat on December 8, just a day after the polls, and personally extended his congratulations to Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In a statement to the nation, Bawumia confirmed reaching out to Mahama to acknowledge his victory and to wish him success.
During his inaugural address at Independence Square in Accra on January 7, 2025, President Mahama highlighted the significance of Bawumia’s gesture in ensuring a peaceful post-election atmosphere.
“I extend my warmest wishes to H.E. former Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. It was a gruelling campaign, and we gave it our all. Your sportsmanship in making an early concession eased tensions and contributed to the early conclusion of the electoral contest. I wish you all the best in your endeavours,” Mahama stated.
