Young Shop Attendant Convicted for Stealing GHS39k from a Telecommunication Shop

A 22-year-old shop attendant has reportedly been convicted of stealing GHS39,385 from a telecommunication shop in Accra.

The Accra Circuit Court handed down a hefty fine of GH¢1,200 (100 penalty units) to Paulina Boateng after she pleaded guilty to the charges.

Boateng, who was responsible for managing the shop’s affairs, was caught after an internal audit uncovered the misappropriation.

Despite admitting to the offense and promising to repay the stolen funds from her future salary, Boateng was arrested alongside a fellow employee, Fati Sulemana.

The court’s decision, which could see Boateng facing 12 months in prison if she fails to pay the fine, serves as a lesson to other shop attendants of the consequences of theft and financial misconduct in the workplace.
