Wontumi FM’s Oheneba Nana Asiedu Arrested Over Alleged Fake News

The Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has arrested Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a radio and television presenter for Wontumi FM, for allegedly publishing false news, a violation under Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The presenter was taken into custody on November 23 after being summoned by the Ashanti Regional Police Command. His arrest follows allegations that he made false statements encouraging voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days during the upcoming December general elections.

The Ghana Police Service described the remarks as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.” Preparations are currently underway to arraign him before court.
