A 38-year-old woman, Akua Darkoah Asamoah, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court for embezzling GH¢221,937.75 from FOE Lotto Limited, a subsidiary of Lotto and Lotteries, in Kumasi.
The court, presided over by Mr. Jephthah Appau, convicted Akua Darkoah on her own guilty plea. She served as the manageress of the Atwima-Techiman branch and was found to have stolen funds collected from sub-agents between March 22 and June 2, 2024, which she failed to remit to the company’s head office.
Police Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu stated that following a report by the company’s General Manager, investigations led to Akua’s arrest. She admitted to the crime in her caution statement. A forensic audit revealed that she forged lotto tickets with fake winning claims to cover her tracks.
Following her confession and the forensic findings, she was charged with stealing and sentenced accordingly.
