Woman Charged for Exposing 12-Year-Old to Danger at Democracy Hub Protest – Police

The Ghana Police Service has charged a 50-year-old woman, Grace Asantewaa, with exposing a child to danger after bringing a 12-year-old girl to the Democracy Hub street protest. The incident occurred during a protest where both were arrested but later released on police enquiry bail.

Contrary to earlier reports claiming that a 68-year-old woman and a pregnant woman were detained, the police clarified that Asantewaa is 50, not 68, and that the child remained with her to avoid separation. The police also provided care for the child during their time at the station.

Additionally, claims of a pregnant woman being arrested and denied medical attention were dismissed. The police conducted medical examinations on the suspect, Gloria Vera Louise, which confirmed she was not pregnant.

The police urged the public to avoid involving children in potentially dangerous activities like protests and reaffirmed their commitment to allowing peaceful demonstrations under lawful conditions.
