A woman and her two children were brutally murdered in Bawku by unidentified gunmen reportedly dressed in military uniforms. The tragic incident occurred in the Tensungo area, close to a military camp within the Bawku township.
While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, it is suspected to be linked to the ongoing chieftaincy conflict that has plagued the area. This latest killing brings the total number of deaths since the conflict resurfaced in October 2024 to 45.
The last fatal incident in the area occurred on January 25, when a 13-year-old boy was shot dead near the same location. Following a brief period of relative calm, this latest attack has once again heightened tensions in the conflict-stricken town.
Assemblymember for the Tensungo Electoral Area, Mohammed Saani, confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies have been transported to the morgue after a medical examination.
“Around 2 AM this morning, a gunman entered a house and killed a woman and her two children. I was informed of the incident and immediately reported it to the police. The military also responded, and we transported the bodies to the hospital for confirmation,” Saani told Citi News.
According to the family of the victims, the attacker wore a uniform, leading them to believe he may return to commit more atrocities. Security forces have yet to confirm these claims, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
