WhatsApp has officially launched WhatsApp Channels in more than 150 countries, including India. This new feature allows users to receive private updates from various organizations, sports teams, artists, and thought leaders within the WhatsApp platform. It’s distinct from regular chats, and the choice of who to follow remains private.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced WhatsApp Channels, highlighting its privacy-focused nature. Users can follow celebrities without seeing their phone numbers.

WhatsApp has introduced several updates for Channels, including an improved directory, reactions with emojis, editing capabilities, and the ability to forward updates to other chats and groups, with a link back to the channel.

Users can discover channels based on their country and see new, popular, and active channels based on follower counts. Reaction emojis are visible, but the specific reactions of other followers remain private.

WhatsApp plans to add more features and eventually allow anyone to create a channel based on user feedback. Additionally, WhatsApp emphasizes protecting the personal information of both admins and followers to comply with privacy regulations.
