Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has advised party members to avoid complacency and internal struggles for positions ahead of the 2024 elections. Speaking at the unveiling of the party’s running mate in Accra, Asiedu Nketiah emphasized the continued threat posed by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their tactics, including vote-buying.
While acknowledging the NDC’s strong standing in many polls, Asiedu Nketiah cautioned against attempting to match the NPP in financial resources for campaigning, stating, “No matter what we do, we cannot mobilize enough resources to compete with them in money politics.” Instead, he urged the party to uphold principles of integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in their campaign efforts.
Addressing concerns about internal power struggles, Asiedu Nketiah warned against demoralizing party supporters by focusing too much on positions within the next government. He emphasized, “We are not there yet. Let’s focus on winning first and then discuss how to share the rewards.”
In response to these remarks, NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama clarified that he does not have a pre-determined list of appointees, refuting claims that certain individuals have already secured positions. He cautioned those who were positioning themselves for roles, stating that they might be disappointed.
