Wassa Akropong: Police Arrest 23 Suspects, Disable 64 Chanfang Machines in Anti-Galamsey Operation

The Ghana Police Service has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining activities in the Western Region, arresting 23 suspects and disabling numerous mining equipment during recent intelligence-led operations.

The arrests occurred along the Wassa Akropong–Japa–Dadieso road, where the police also extended their operation to the Obeng Mining Group site at Wassa Japa, successfully disabling 64 Chanfang machines used for illegal mining.

Further actions took place at Wassa Dominase, where seven additional Chanfang machines and washing boards were disabled following intelligence reports of illegal mining near Goil and Energy Oil filling stations along the Agona Amenfi–Gyedua Kesse Junction road.

In total, three water pumping machines and one pickaxe were also retrieved as part of the crackdown.
