A 20-year-old man, Nawaf Abdulai, has been handed a 15-year prison sentence by the Wa Circuit Court for his involvement in a motorbike robbery that occurred in the Upper West Region.
The robbery, which took place on March 6, 2025, involved Abdulai and his accomplice, Awal Abass—who is currently on the run. The two forcefully took possession of two motorbikes from their victims. The stolen bikes, identified as a Haojue and a Luojia, bore registration numbers M-21-449 UW and M-17-4607 UW respectively.
Abdulai was apprehended on March 8 at his residence following swift police investigations. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, paving the way for his prosecution.
On April 7, 2025, the presiding judge, His Lordship Jonathan Avoogo, delivered the sentence, emphasizing the seriousness of robbery cases and the need for strong deterrents to address the rising crime rate in the region.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has commended both its officers and members of the public for their swift action and collaboration in bringing Abdulai to justice. They reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring public safety and continuing the fight against criminal activities across the region.
The police added that Abdulai’s image was made public in line with legal procedures, as he has now been officially convicted by the court.
