
The Volta North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly trafficking substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in the Volta Region.
The suspects, identified as Etornam Vumadzi, a driver, and Emmanuel Komlagah, were arrested on Friday, January 30, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation by the police.
According to the police, the suspects were intercepted while transporting the suspected narcotic substances from Godenu towards Togo in a Toyota minibus with registration number GT-6592-19.
In a statement issued on Saturday, January 31, and signed by the Volta North Regional Public Relations Officer, Inspector Felix Kwao, police said a search conducted on the vehicle led to the retrieval of 18 sacks. Each sack contained 36 yellow oval parcels, bringing the total number of seized parcels to 648.
Preliminary investigations further revealed that a third party, identified only as Joseph, contacted the police team by phone and attempted to offer a bribe of GH¢150,000 to influence the operation. The two suspects also allegedly offered an upfront bribe of GH¢32,000. All bribe offers were rejected by the officers.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law.
