A chaotic scene unfolded during the re-run of the Council of State election in the Ashanti Region, resulting in the arrest of one individual by the police.
The election, which was rescheduled due to previous disruptions, descended into chaos once again when a group of unidentified individuals stormed the venue. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers forcefully entered the center, overturning tables, destroying ballot boxes, and scattering voting materials. The Electoral Commission (EC) was forced to suspend the process as a result of the disorder.
The disturbance is believed to have been triggered by the unexpected loss of Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, who was widely seen as the favorite. Aggrieved supporters allegedly instigated the violence, demanding a review of the election results.
Meanwhile, notable political figures, including former Minister for Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Kingsley Nyarko, and Henry Kwabena Kokofu, were denied entry to the voting center for lacking accreditation.
